Bill To Grant Loans to Undergraduate Students Passes Second Reading

The current bill to provide loans for Nigerian students who wish to further their education has passed the second reading in the house of representatives yesterday.

It is according to the sponsor of the bill, Femi Gbajabiamila, the loan should be made interest-free as Nigeria has the resources to provide steady education for future generations.

However, another House member, Olabode Ayorinde it will be a against already existing laws for banks to give loans interest-free and suggested that the House should rather set up an "education support fund".

After much deliberations, the lawmakers unanimously endorsed the second reading of the bill and subsequently referred it to tertiary education and services committee.
