Cybercafé Owners Charged to Court for Unauthorized 2015/2016 UTME Registration

Two owners of a cybercafé have been charged an Osogbo Magistrate's to court by the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) for unauthorized registration of 2015/2016 UTME.

The two persons identified as Olaide Semiu and Akinjogbin Olatunji were charged for conspiracy, fraud and impersonation.

It was gathered that the two collected the sum of N6, 000 from one Nafisat Abdulrasheed as a registration fee for 2015/2016 UTME.

They were granted bail in the sum of N100, 000 with two sureties

The case was adjourned till December 10, 2014.

It would be recalled that JAMB had earlier warned that only Accredited/authorized CBT centres are allowed to register candidates for the 2015/2016 UTME.

JAMB Is Exploiting Us, Cybercafé Operators Cry Out

 
Cybercafé operators in the country have urged President Goodluck Jonathan and the National Assembly to examine the books of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, with a view to checking its alleged excesses and exploitation.

This came as The PUNCH investigations on Monday showed that the examination body realised over N56m as non-refundable caution fees from cybercafé operators participating in this year’s Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination e-registration exercise alone.

The board conducts the UTME for candidates seeking admission to the nation’s universities, polytechnics and colleges of education.

This year’s Paper Pencil Test and Dual-Based Test will hold on April 5, while the
