Read Poem: The Icon Of My Town
In the year nineteen ninety nine
A man clocked eighty eight years
With seventy seven cars
And sixty six houses
And fifty five firms
And forty four factories
And thirty three tenants
In his Lekki apartment
His twenty two trucks
Drove round my town
While his eleven wives
But had no child.
He had no child
And many eyes cried
And many minds wondered
Why such icon of my town
Stooped to suicide
At the very night
Of his eighty eight birthday
In the year nineteen ninety nine?
