This current news has it that the Nigeria's education sector is facing many challenges mainly because
successive governments have failed to properly implement the various
policies so far introduced, says the Vice Chancellor of theUniversity of
Maiduguri(UNIMAID), Professor Ibrahim Njodi.
According to Njodi, the problems in the sector is poor implementation, not the lack of positive policies.
"The problem with the education sector is not introducing new policy but implementation," he told Daily Trust.
"As successive governments are coming in with new policies and sweeping the old ones under the carpet, institutions are confused with the actual policy to adopt.
"No one knows whether the 6-3-3-4 policy is still in use."
The Vice Chancellor said if things are to change in the sector, the government must ensure that any
policy introduced is fully implemented.
"So, inconsistency in education policy is really affecting the sector.
"When we have a new policy, we should ensure its full implementation.
"That will be the best for the sector."
Njodi's assessment of Nigeria's education sector is in line with what many education stakeholders have said recently.
Less than two weeks ago, a Rivers State politician, who represented theAll Progressives Congress(APC) in the last gubernatorial elections,
Dr.Dakuku Peterside, said many of the problems facing Nigeria as a nation can be traced to the many years of neglect of the education sector.
