To be eligible for admission into the Peace and Conflict Studies Programme,

Admission Requirements:
The Programmes will be open to candidates who possess a first degree in Medicine, Basic Medical Sciences, Pharmacy, Nursing and other relevant courses allied to Medicine. In addition candidates must have at least three years post degree experience and must have completed National Youth Service (NYSC) programme. Candidates for admission into the programme will undergo a selection process and only those who are successful will be admitted into the programme.
To serve the interest and needs of all Medical, Health and allied professions who desire the programme, there is need to simultaneously mount two separate programmes, one for medically qualified graduates and another for non-medically qualified professionals who wish to practice Public Health.
Requirements for Master of Public Health Programme:
(a) MBBS or its equivalent, with a minimum of three years post qualification experience.

DURATION OF GRADUATE PROGRAMMES
A. Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE)
The Programme is to run on a Full-Time basis to last for a minimum of 12 calendar months and maximum of 24 calendar months and also on a Part-Time basis for two consecutive long vacation of eight (8) weeks each sandwich programme.
B. MBA Programme
Full-Time: Minimum of 24 Calendar Months and Maximum of 48 Calendar Months
C. MD and MS Programmes
The Programmes will be at least 24 Calendar Months duration.

The Course work will be taught in two semesters of 12 months while the
student will spend the remaining 6 months in a training attachment and a

38. DEPARTMENT OF PREVENTIVE AND SOCIAL MEDICINE
i. Master of Public Health (MPH) for MBBS graduate
ii. Master of Science in Public Health (MSc Public Health MSPH for other B.Sc in Science, Anatomy etc.
Admission Requirements:
The Programmes will be open to candidates who possess a first degree in Medicine, Basic Medical Sciences, Pharmacy, Nursing and other relevant courses allied to Medicine. In addition candidates must have at least three years post degree experience and must have completed National Youth Service (NYSC) programme. Candidates for admission into the programme will undergo a selection process and only those who are successful will be admitted into the programme.
To serve the interest and needs of all Medical, Health and allied professions who desire the programme, there is need to simultaneously mount two separate programmes, one for medically qualified graduates and another for non-medically qualified professionals who wish to practice Public Health.
Requirements for Master of Public Health Programme:
(a) MBBS or its equivalent, with a minimum of three years post qualification experience.
(b) Candidates are also required to pass the qualifying examination.
Requirements for MSc Public Health Programme:
(a) B.Sc Honours in a health-related discipline with a minimum of Second Class Lower Division (22) Degree with CGPA not less than 3.00 on a 5 point scale or CGPA of 2.5 on a 4 point scale.
(b) Candidates are also required to pass the qualifying examination.

Requirements for M.Pharm
Candidates must possess a good first Degree in Pharmacy from the University of Port Harcourt or any other recognized University, not below Second Class Honours with a minimum CGPA of 3 points on a 5 points scale. Non pharmacy graduates in closely related subjects like Chemistry, Biochemistry and Botany may be considered for admission. Such candidates may be required to take remedial undergraduate courses in Pharmacognosy as recommended by the Departmental Graduate Studies Committee.
Requirements for PhD
(i) Candidates who possess the M.Pharm Degree in Pharmacognosy of the University of Port Harcourt or any other recognized Universities, with a CGPA of 3.5 on a 5 points scale. However candidates with CGPA of 3.0 in their M.Pharm or M.Sc Programmes in the Pharmacognosy or related disciplines may be considered for admission. Such candidates shall be required to take recommended 700 level/remedial courses which they must pass at an average score of 60% in the first year.
(ii) Candidates with M.Sc/M.Pharm degree (minimum CGPA of 3.5); M.Phil Degrees in Pharmacognosy, Ethnomedicine, Chemistry, Biochemistry or Botany of the University of Port Harcourt or other approved Universities. Final selection of candidates is by presentation of a research proposal. Part-Time candidates will also be considered.
40. DEPARTMENT OF PHARMACEUTICS AND PHARMACEUTICAL TECHNOLOGY
(i) M.Pharm and PhD Programmes
Areas of Specialization for M.Pharm:
(a) M.Pharm in Pharmaceutics
(b) M.Pharm in Pharmaceutical Technology
Requirements for M.Pharm
Candidates must be graduates of pharmacy from the University of Port Harcourt or any other recognized Universities with at least a Second Class (Lower Division) or a declassified approved Degree Programme with evidence of good performance in pharmaceutics. Candidates shall be required to satisfy the department in a selection process.
Areas of Specialization for PhD:
(a) PhD in Pharmaceutics
(b) PhD in Pharmaceutical Technology
Requirements for PhD
(i) A graduate of the University of Port Harcourt holding a Masters Degree (M.Pharm) in the specialized field of Pharmaceutics and Pharmaceutical Technology with requirements as stated above for the M.Pharm Programme.
(ii) Graduates of the University of Port Harcourt holding a Masters Degree as stated above in the requirements for M.Pharm who have obtained at least a CGPA of 3.5 on a 5-point scale or an overall average of 60%(B) in the course work.
(iii) A graduate of any other recognized university who meets the above requirements shall be admitted on presentation of transcripts from the university. Candidates may be required to take relevant remedial courses as may be recommended by the Departmental and Faculty Graduate Committees.
41. DEPARTMENT OF EXPERIMENTAL PHARMACOLOGY AND TOXICOLOGY
(i) MSc & PhD Toxicology

(a) Drug Toxicology
(b) Food Toxicology

Requirements for M.Sc Toxicology
Candidates must possess a B.Sc Degree from the University of Port Harcourt or from any other recognized University in any of these disciplines: Biological and Chemical Sciences including (Chemistry, Civil, Agricultural, Chemical and Environmental Engineering), Medical Sciences and Forensic Sciences.
Requirements for PhD
Candidates who obtained a minimum CGPA of 3.5 in the relevant written examinations and project on the M.Sc Course in Toxicology of the University of Port Harcourt, or any other recognized University.

III. GRADUATE SCHOOL OF ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY
COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING
All Engineering PhD programmes require a minimum CGPA of 4.0 on a 5 point scale. Candidates would be required to attend an interview before admission and registration for the programme, and will be required to write a qualifying examination.
Requirements for College of Engineering
1. PGD Programmes: Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s Degree with a minimum of 3rd Class Honours in his/her choice of discipline or a minimum of 22 in any other related Engineering discipline.
2. M.Eng Programmes: Candidates must possess either a Bachelor’s Degree with minimum of Second Class Honours in the relevant Discipline, with a minimum CGPA of 3.0 on a 5 point scale or PGD in the relevant areas with minimum CGPA of 3.50 on a 5 point scale.
43. Master of Engineering Management (MEM) in the following areas:
(a) Chemical Engineering
(b) Civil Engineering
(c) Electrical./Electronic Engineering
(d) Mechanical Engineering
(e) Petroleum Engineering
Requirements:
Candidates must possess a Second Class Bachelor’s Degree in a chosen Engineering discipline with a minimum CGPA of 3.0. The MEM is a Terminal Degree.

Requirements:
Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or related science discipline, with a minimum CGPA of 3.0. The M.Env.T is a Terminal Degree.

Duration:
The programme shall last for a minimum of 24 calendar months and a maximum of 60 calendar months of full-time study or 36 calendar months and a maximum of 84 calendar months for part-time study.

(i) Postgraduate Diploma in Petroleum Engineering (PGDPE)
(ii) Postgraduate Diploma in Petroleum Technology (PGDPT)
Requirement for PGDPE:
Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s Degree with a minimum of Third Class in Petroleum & Gas Engineering or a minimum of Second Class in any related Engineering Discipline.
(ii) Postgraduate Diploma in Petroleum Technology (PGDPT)
Requirement for PGDPT:
Candidates with Degrees in Physics, Chemistry, Geology, Geophysics, or Metallurgy with a minimum of Second Class Lower Degree or Third Class with at least five (5) years industrial experience are eligible to apply.

Candidates must possess at least a Third Class Degree in the field of specialization. Other candidates in related Disciplines must possess at least a
Second Class Honours Degree or a third class. For HND holders, a minimum of upper credit is acceptable in the related discipline.

(a) Accounting

Candidates must have B.Sc Degree in the field of specialization with a minimum CGPA of 3.00 on a 5 point scale in (Accounting, Finance and Banking, Management, Marketing). Others from related fields must possess at least a 3.50 on a 5 point scale from PGD programmes.

(iv) Doctorate Degree (PhD) in the following areas:

Candidates must have M.Sc in the field of specialization (Accounting, Finance and Banking, Management, Marketing) in addition to the other Faculty Requirements.

Requirements for Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) Programme:
Candidates for the DBA programme must possess an MBA or M.Sc in Accounting, Finance and Banking, Management, and Marketing or in an acceptable and closely related area/discipline. The Master’s programme must have had a Thesis/Research component.
Candidates are required to have had a minimum of 3.5 on a 5.0 point scale or 3.0 on a 4.0 point scale in their master’s programme.
Working experience of two years attained in a middle management position in the corporate world or in an alternative relevant employment will be an added advantage.
The final selection of candidates for the DBA programme shall be based on the candidate’s performance at an interview to be conducted by the Faculty Graduate Studies Committee
DURATION OF GRADUATE PROGRAMMES
A. Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE)
The Programme is to run on a Full-Time basis to last for a minimum of 12 calendar months and maximum of 24 calendar months and also on a Part-Time basis for two consecutive long vacation of eight (8) weeks each sandwich programme.
B. MBA Programme
Full-Time: Minimum of 24 Calendar Months and Maximum of 48 Calendar Months
C. MD and MS Programmes
The Programmes will be at least 24 Calendar Months duration.
D. Ph.D Programmes
Full-Time candidates will be required to spend a minimum of 24 calendar
months and a maximum of 60 calendar months.
Part-Time candidates will be required to spend a minimum of 36 calendar months and a maximum of 84 calendar months.
E. DBA Programme
Full-time candidates shall be required to spend a minimum of three (3) years and a maximum of five (5) years from the date of first registration.
Part-time candidates will be required to spend a minimum of five (5) years and a maximum of seven (7) years.
GENERAL ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
ALL PGD PROGRAMMES
The minimum requirement for the Postgraduate Diploma Programmes is a Bachelor’s Degree in the related disciplines. Candidates must possess at least a Second Class Honours Degree or Third Class in the related Discipline. For HND holders a minimum of Upper Credit is acceptable in the relevant Departments.
PGDC
For the Postgraduate Diploma in Chemistry (PGDC) Programme, candidates with Third Class need not apply.
MASTER’S DEGREE PROGRAMMES
Candidates must possess at least a Second Class Honours Degree of the University of Port Harcourt or any recognized University, in the relevant subject with a minimum CGPA of 3.00 points on a 5 point scale or its equivalent. Candidates for the Master’s in Education must have obtained a first Degree in another field and in addition a Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) with at least an Upper Credit classification. Candidates for the MBA Programme must possess a strong qualitative background. Candidates with PGD must have a CGPA of 3.50 to register for Master’s Degree in the relevant field
PhD PROGRAMMES
Generally, for the PhD Programmes, candidates should have a Master’s Degree with a minimum CGPA of 3.5 or 4.0 depending on the department or its equivalent grade in the relevant discipline at the Master’s level. Admission will be based on interview performance. PhD involves course work and qualifying examination.
MD/MS PROGRAMME

(A) Candidates must either be graduates of Medicine (MBBS) of the University of Port Harcourt for not less than five (5) years or confirmed and experienced academic staff of the University with Medical Degree of recognized University.
(B) In addition to the above, candidates must possess either a recognized professional qualification at the fellowship level or at least an M.Sc Degree of a recognized University, after the MBBS Degree
