The NUC has lifted the moratorium placed on the University’s part-time
programmes and approved the conduct of the following 17 programmes on
part-time basis with effect from October 7, 2013.
It would be recalled that in March 2012, the National Universities
Commission (NUC) placed a moratorium on admission into part-time
programmes in Nigerian Universities for alleged constant violation of
the extant rules and operational guidelines for part-time and sandwich
programmes by some Universities.
In April, 2013, the Commission issued comprehensive guidelines for
conducting part-time and sandwich programmes in the Nigerian University
system. In response, the Vice-Chancellor by letter No.
FUT/VC/GEN.80C/VOL.III/323 of May 22, 2013, sought for the Commission’s
approval for the University to continue to run the 22 programmes on
part-time basis in five Schools of the
University.
The 17 programmes approved by the NUC are as follows:
School of Management Technology (Postgraduate)
Financial Management Technology (PGD & MBA);
Informational Management Technology (PGD& MBA);
Project Management Technology (PGD & MBA);
Transport Management Technology (PGD & MBA);
School of Science (Undergraduate B. Tech.)
Biochemistry;
Biotechnology;
Geosciences;
Mathematics
Statistics;
Physics,
School of Agriculture & Agricultural Technology
Agricultural Economics;
Agric. Sciences (Animal Science, Soil Science & Crop Science & Tech).
Agricultural Extension;
School of Management Technology
Maritime Management Technology
Information Management Technology
Project Management Technology
Transport Management Technology.
In his reaction to the cheering news, the Vice-Chancellor stated that
the Commission has indicated its plan to conduct facility validation
visit to the University to appraise the programmes shortly. He added
that under the new dispensation, the duration for first degree
programmes of the scheme being offered to adults of 25 years of age and
above in FUTO is now seven years. He noted that the part-time programme
will serve as a source of revenue to the University and capacity
development to interested imolites.
