Blame Govt Officials For Bloated Poly Admission – Rector

The Rector of the Kwara State Polytechnic, Alhaji Mas’ud Elelu, has accused government officials and some influential Nigerians of contributing to the overstretching of admission capacities in the nation’s polytechnics.

These Nigerians, he said, put pressure on the schools to admit many candidates even when there were no corresponding funds and facilities.

Elelu spoke while receiving the National Board of Technical Education verification and accreditation team to the polytechnic.

Decrying the interference, which, according to him, makes the schools not to adhere to their admission quota, Elelu said the development also affected the proper mobilisation of students for the National Youth Service Corps programme.

He, however, noted that many of the polytechnics were doing their best to abide by their admission limit.

Leader of the team, Dr. Ibrahim Rufai, said five programmes of the
polytechnic were due for accreditation while 10 were for verification.

He said the exercise was for quality assurance and not a witch-hunt.
