Fayemi Tasks King’s College Alumni On Education Development

Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, has called on the alumni of King’s College, London, Nigeria chapter to initiate career talk and debates for youths as part of their annual reunion celebrations.

He made the appeal on Friday in Lagos at the reunion cum dinner organised by the alumni of the college.

Fayemi, an alumnus of the institution, said the appeal had become imperative to stop youngsters from pursuing wrong life careers as well as to enable them to develop confidence and strategic thinking.

He said, “I commend all of you for organising this, and I want to implore you to continue to work as a team. Besides, I want to commend the
chapter for visiting the Ikoyi Prisons and motherless babies homes, to share love and gifts.

“But I will want you to include other things like career talk, debates and other activities to guide the youth in their quest to chart paths for themselves in life. This will definitely help in their educational development.”

Fayemi, who promised to host the alumni next year, added that he would support them in all their activities.

The President of the group, Prof. Mide Ajose, said passion and commitment to serve humanity better had been the driving force of the association.

Ajose, a retired professor of Electrical Engineering, said the alumni would contribute its quota to the development of the country, by providing expertise and advice.

He said, “Though we went to the university abroad, we have since returned home and we have been contributing to the development of the country in every sphere of the economy.”

Ajose frowned on the existence of multiple unions representing various interests in the nation’s universities.

He said, “I don’t feel comfortable with these multiple unions in the university environment. There is the Academic Staff Union of Universities, Senior Staff Union of Universities and the Non-Academic Union of Allied and Education Institutions. It is better we collapse all of these, and form one formidable union that will cater for the interest of everybody.”
