FG Meet ASUP Today Over Impending Strike.

This is to inform you that the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics today meet in Abuja with the federal Government to find a way of averting the imminent strike action proposed by ASUP to commence tomorrow 25th of February, 2015.

Part of the demands of the union includes as listed “the Federal Government should, without further delay dissolve the Governing Councils of the Federal polytechnics Oko and Ado Ekiti as they have become burdens rather than solutions to the myriad of problems bedeviling the sector.

NYSC Online Call-Up Fee- NANS Calls for Reduction

This is to inform you that the National Association Of Nigerian Students (NANS) Yesterday made swift calls for reduction in the National Youth Service Corps’ (NYSC) N4000 online call-up fee for all prospective corps members.

NANS expressed its support for the NYSC online mobilization system, but however demanded that the amount be reduced to N3000.

We Spends N20 Million Monthly On Students Feeding: Nasarawa State Government -SSG

Disclosing this to the general public the NASARWA State Government made it known that it spends 20 million Naira Monthly to feed students in over twenty two boarding schools in the state.

This was disclosed by the State Secretary to the State Government (SSG) Hajiya Zainab Ahmed.

2014/2015 JAMB UTME Slip Reprinting postpones Indefinitely

This is to inform all JAMBites that the board has moved the date to begin reprinting of photocard exam slips for the 2015 UTME until further notice.

This current information is coming from a reliable staff of the board, who also disclosed that this year's photocard printing would be done by only accredited CBT registration centres and JAMB is trying to work out modalities for the smooth deployment of this new system.

EBSU Expels 23 Student And Suspends Others

This is to inform you that the senate committee of Ebonyi State University (EBSU), Abakaliki at its 30th Regular meeting held on 27th January, 2015 has approved the following sanctions against the under listed students who were involved in various categories of examination misconducts.

2014/2015 Sokoto State University Matriculates 1,002 Students.

This is to inform all you that the sokoto State University over the weekend matriculated 1,002 students admitted for the 2014/2015 academic session.

During the event the Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Nuhu Yaqub reveled that the institution received over N2.09 billion from the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND) in the last seven months.

According to him, he disclose that the fund would be used to provide two lecture theatres, begin the building of the Faculty of Science and provide Internet facilities, among others.

ASUP To Embark On Indefinite Strike.

This is to inform you that the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) has connfirmed that they will on February 25th embark on an indefinite strike.

The union had earlier on February 11 issued a two weeks ultimatum urging the federal government to immediately implement the agreement it reached with the union which led to the suspension of its strike last July.

According to president of ASUP, Comrade Chibuzor Asomuga, while speaking with journalists in Abuja at the weekend at the end of the national executive council (NEC) meeting of the union frowned over the government’s failure to implement the agreement it reached with the union.

According to him, ASUP suspended the strike in July 2014 based on the plea of the Hon Minister of Education, Alhaji Ibrahim Shekarau who then requested for a three month moratorium to enable him tackle the lingering problems.

However, since the suspension of the strike none of the issues has been addressed to a logical conclusion.

2015 UTME: All You Need To Know Must Read.

This is to inform you that the date for the 2015/2016 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME)has been officially postponed.

The new date is March 9th, 2015.

This was made known by the registrar, Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Prof. ‘Dibu Ojerinde.

The registrar also revealed that the Board has set systems in place to ensure that the visually impaired candidates are not excluded from the examination.

Meanwhile JAMB has earlier told candidates to start reprinting their slip from 21st February, 2015.

But in view of the recent change in examination date, we totally advise candidates to rather start reprinting their slips from Monday 23rd February, 2015, also prepare very well for the exams.
This is to enable JAMB to make appropriate changes to the candidates’ examination details.

FG To Make First Degree Minimum For Teaching Qualification

This is to inform you that the Federal Government has revealed that it is making effort to ensure that First Degree becomes the minimum teaching qualification in Nigeria.

This was made known by the Minister of Education, Malam Ibrahim Shekarau during a reception ceremony to welcome Finish Ambassador to Nigeria, Pirjo Suomela-Chowdhury, on a courtesy call.

According to him the Federal Government will explore all measures to restore the respect, dignity and status of teachers in the country.

The Minister said that the Federal Government is aiming at making first degree the minimum teaching qualification, noted that from 1980 the minimum teaching qualification to teach in school is National Certificate in Education (NCE).

EKSU Management Includes N5,000 Additional Late Payment Charges For School Fees.

We are to bring to the notice of the general students and most especially those who are yet to pay their School fee that additional 5,000 naira late payment charges have been added for Re-opening the school portal.

In this Regard, Temitope Awelewa,Editor-In-Chief Students' Union Press Corps while pleading with management through the Deputy Vice Chancellor Academic,Prof Mrs Ibiyinka Ogunlade to Please reconsider Eksu students who are yet to pay their fees as many of them have not been able to pay up because they don't have it, therefore adding 10,000 extra charges to their fee can cause many to loose their studentship after much struggle.

In her words, Prof. Mrs Ibiyinka Ogunlade noted that management was able to re-open the Portal for students not considering the human power and resources to be put together at management's loss because of its passion and reconsideration.

She stressed further that Ekiti state university is the only institution where students are not paying on time till a day to the commencement of exams which is not only affecting management but also affecting students in many ways.

UNIJOS Reduces The Damages Fee to be Paid By Students During Protest.

This is to inform you that the management of University of Jos, has shifted ground on the earlier decision made about the Returning Students to pay the sum of twelve Thousand Naira(N12,000) .
