Staff and students of the University of Benin (UNI BEN) on Monday,
excitedly received the Vice Chancellor of university, Professor Godwin
Oshodin, after about three month absence for medical treatment overseas.
Oshodin, until Monday, was last seen in the institution campus in May,
after which some of his opponents fuelled speculations over his health
and called for the appointment of an acting vice chancellor in his
absence.
The VC made a surprise appearance a the institution’s Senate building at
about 11:00 a.m. to attend a meeting of the appointment and promotion
board of the university.
Meanwhile, three associations in the University of Benin – Senior Staff
Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), National Association of
Academic Technologists (NAAT) and the Non Academic Staff Union of
Education and Associated Institutions (NASU) on Monday, berated calls by
some sections of the university for the appointment of an acting vice
chancellor for the institution because of the absence Oshodin.

MOUAU Female Undergraduate Crushed to Death by a Bus Driver
A female student identified as Miss Cynthia Okebaram of the Micheal
Okpara University was on Monday crushed to death by a bus driver.
The ugly incident which happened at the main gate of the institution as reported was caused by the driver who was on high speed on the ever-busy Umuahia Ikot-Ekpene Road when he tried to overtake a trailer; Skidded off the road and hit the student who was standing close to the gate apparently with the intention of crossing the road, crushing her skull.
This attracted the wrath of other students around who wasted no time in destroying the vehicle and setting it ablaze.
However, the driver was said to have escaped unhurt to a nearby police station.
The deceased was said to have completed her Diploma in Computer Science and was processing her clearance.

LASU: Fashola Orders Complete Reversal Of Tuition Fees
The Lagos State Governor, Mr Babatunde Fashola has ordered the reversal
of the tuition Fees in the Lagos State University to its previous
status.
This according to report was stated by the Governor at the convocation ceremony of the institution.
It would be recalled that there was a hike in Tuition fees which led to protests by students of the institution which led to 34% to 60% reduction on the fees by the governor.
This however was again rejected by staff and students of the institution.
If this is implemented students will again pay as low as N25, 000.

Offa Poly Lecturer Killed by Flood
A senior Lecturer of the Federal Polytechnic Offa , Adeniyi Adebowale
was last Thursday killed in his car by a violent flood resulting from
the heavy rainfall that fell that day in Oke Gada community, in Ede, the
headquarters of Ede North local government area of Osun State.
According to report the 45-year old lecturer of the Department of Computer Science was coming back home and was already close to his residence when the daring flood immersed the car he was in.
It was learnt that the deceased was warned by other road users against using the swampy road but he objected before the ugly incident happened.
The corpse has since been deposited in a mortuary.

NUC Shuts Down 2 Illegal Varsities in Lagos
The Evangel University of America and Clinton University Study Centre,
Ojokoro were recently shut down by the National University Commission
(NUC).
At the Evangel University Of America a four bedroom flat located at 2, Akinola Street, Olufemi Estate, Egan, Igando, the NUC officials who were accompanied by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offenses Commission (ICPC) and the operators of the State Security Service (SSS) arrested the one Dr. Philip Nnaji who was said to be the bursar of the school.
According to Dr. Nnaji he was not aware that the institution which was an affiliate of an American based University has no license from the appropriate agencies to operate in Nigeria.

The management of the Polytechnic Ibadan hereby invites applications
from suitably qualified candidates for Admission into the National
Diploma programmes of The Polytechnic Ibadan.

The entry requirements for Full-Time National Diploma (ND) program of The Polytechnic Ibadan is determined by the JAMB-UTME Requirements for each of the courses for the 2014/2015 Academic Session.

The general public is hereby informed that Application Forms for
admission into the Pre-degree Science Programme of Ladoke Akintola
University of Technology, (LAUTECH) Ogbomoso is now available on-line.
Admission Requirement
Candidate should possess at least SSCE, NECO GCE Ordinary Level or NABTEB in not more than two sittings, with a minimum of credit in English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Biology and Chemistry. Candidate who does not satisfy the above requirement for admission need not apply.
Duration of Programme
The programme is expected to run for six (6) calendar months after which there will be an intensive and compulsory ICT programme which will run for three (3) months immediately after the final examination while successful candidates are awaiting admission into the degree programmes.
Method of Application
(1) Prospective Applicants are to proceed to Pre-Degree Application Website to make payment of Ten Thousand Naira (N10,000:00) only for the Application Form and registration online using Interswitch enabled Debit Cards (ATM)
