A student of the University of Ilorin, Muhammed Abdullahi, has
emerged winner in an essay competition organised for tertiary
institution students.
The competition, organised by the Glorious Islamic Centre, also saw
Adediran Farouq of Wings Private School, Iwo, Osun State, winning the
contest at the secondary level.
Abdullahi received an iPad, while Farouq got a laptop.
The GIC President, Akin Laguda, said the competition was to reward bright students in various higher institutions.
He urged government at all levels to give education the priority it deserves.
He said,“We devised this competition as our own little way of making the
students useful to the society and the nation at large. I am glad the
turnout has been impressive every year.”
Laguda also called on well-meaning individuals and corporate
organisations not to
relent in encouraging students, saying fund was a
major challenge in carrying out educational projects.
He said, “It gives a nostalgic feeling to recall the time when GIC was
established and it has come a long way from its modest beginning in
2001. Our success has been a result of the hard work, persistence and
commitment of every individual who at any time in our history has been a
member of the one big family.
“It has always been my belief that a man is limited only by his thoughts
and there are no limits to achieving whatever we desire, as long as
this is done within the boundaries of reason and ethics. This is what
gives us the energy and drive to continue to march ahead on the road on
which we started a decade ago.”
